- After several decades of official disinterest, contemporary history became a popular topic of Portuguese historiography in the late 1970s. However, attention was often directed towards socio-political aspects, with legal and constitutional aspects barely being examined at all. Although the situation has not changed dramatically, the area benefits indirectly from the interest that is being shown in the period. The following text brings together a group of works which deal, more or less directly, with the legal and institutional framework of 19th-century Portuguese history. The lack of any systematic treatment of the subject makes a synthesis or a critical bibliography far too hazardous a task, so that this contribution claims to be little more than an organized list of titles, with some brief comments.

- Após várias décadas de desinteresse oficial, a história contemporânea tornou-se um tópico popular na historiografia portuguesa de fins dos anos 1970. Contudo, a atenção frequentemente dirigia-se a aspectos sócio-políticos, com os aspectos legais e constitucionais mal sendo examinados. Embora a situação não tenha mudado dramaticamente, a área negligenciada beneficia-se indiretamente pelo interesse sobre o período. Este artigo reúne um conjunto de trabalhos que tratam, mais ou menos diretamente, da estrutura legal e institucional da história portuguesa do século XIX. A falta de qualquer tratamento sistemático do assunto torna uma síntese ou uma bibliografia crítica uma tarefa demasiado arriscada, de modo que este contributo se propõe a ser pouco mais do que uma lista organizada de títulos com alguns breves comentários.
