Abstract:
De-identified images and data from a sample of 354 patients with random US-guided liver biopsies collected during a four-year period used in the retrospective study. The study was heterogeneous with regard to device settings, operator characteristics, and anatomic view. From these patients, we collected 624 liver US images and the patient’s corresponding quantitative values of triglyceride lipids (%) from pathology. Patients with targeted biopsies were excluded, since tumors affect triglyceride lipid content. After removing patients with targeted biopsies, we had 488 images from 288 patients. Two experienced radiologists blinded to results independently examined all of the images in the steatosis dataset. Each radiologist chose an image in each patient’s series of images that best displayed the hepatic echo-texture. On that image, each drew a Region of Interest (ROI) using ImageJ.
