- This text briefly presents the website 'Materials for the History of Elections and Parliament in Portugal, 1820-1926', a result of a 2005 agreement between the National Library of Portugal and the team responsible for the research project 'Parliamentary Recruitment in Portugal, 1834-1926', funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. There is a long electoral and parliamentary tradition in modern Portugal’s political history, largely connected to the Liberal period as recorded in various sources. Preserving this historical legacy while making forgotten documents available and preventing the inevitable physical deterioration of others, as well as providing specialists and students with a useful research and educational tool, were the basic aims that guided the creation of this new website.

- Este texto brevemente apresenta o website 'Materiais para a História Eleitoral e Parlamentar Portuguesa, 1820-1926' (purl.pt/5854/1/), que resultou de um acordo feito em 2005 pela Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal e a equipa responsável pela o projecto de investigação 'O Recrutamento Parlamentar em Portugal, 1834-1926', financiado pela Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia. Há uma longa tradição eleitoral e parlamentar na história política moderna de Portugal, em grande parte ligada ao período liberal, conforme registado em várias fontes. Preservar esse legado histórico ao disponibilizar documentos esquecidos e evitar a deterioração física inevitável de outros, além de fornecer aos especialistas e estudantes uma ferramenta de pesquisa e educação, foram os objetivos básicos que guiaram a criação deste novo website.
