The Future of Risk - Creating a Framework for Growth of the Corporate Risk Function
Abstract
Risk management functions have grown considerably in the past decade from small units focused on financial risk and regulatory compliance to large armies covering diverse threat portfolios. Spawned by an increase in regulatory requirements and burgeoning external threats, these functions have been saddled with an ever-flourishing scope. Corporate leadership, now looking for new risk management and technical expertise to battle these threats, is facing a lack of qualified personnel and pressure on operating budgets. Even more difficult is the rise in new technology and the need for corporations to quickly adjust their models, sometimes at the behest of security and risk management. To adequately manage risk in the Digital Age, companies must broaden their understanding of risk management from simply avoiding risk, to embracing it in context. Risk and compliance capabilities in the organization must also provide strategic insights and must move towards a proactive posture. By infusing risk insights into daily processes, corporations will be more coordinated and connected over the long term.
