Abstract
In this plate, two women are depicted going to the theater. Both women wear dresses with a lower, belted waistline, closer to the natural waist. Their sleeves have quite a bit of volume and are called 'en béret.' The hems of the dresses are a bit higher and reveal the ankles as well as boots, laced on the inside of the ankle. The woman in the foreground is wearing a lace cape that covers the shoulders called a 'pélerine.' The Comédie Française or Théâtre Français occupies the southwest wing of the Palais Royal.
