<mods:abstract lang="eng">Throughout the 150 years of history of 'The Continent,' the memory is repeatedly filtered. Forgetfulness is a constant companion and it is not a natural process, mere consequence of the passage of time, but a socio-cultural construction. There will be a search for the memory, theme of the third part of the trilogy, because, before, there was an effective fight against memories. In this paper, we will address this theme, the chapter 'The Fountain' being the main focus of analysis. We intend to evidence that the romance structure betrays the silencing of memory in relation to the historic universe present there.</mods:abstract>
