Assessing Physician-Patient Communication on Sexual Health: Variations Across Sexual Orientations in the U.S. Healthcare Systemtext_resourcesAdolescents face high risks of unplanned pregnancy and STIs, and while sex education is linked to improved prevention and healthy relationship skills, most young people lack comprehensive education before age 18. Disparities are even greater for queer youth, who experience higher rates of sexual violence, unintended pregnancy, and lower condom use due to inconsistent LGBTQ+-inclusive education. This highlights the crucial role of healthcare providers in bridging these education gaps, though historically, they have provided limited sexual health counseling. This research will examine the relationship between sexual orientation and the topics and frequency of sexual health counseling offered by healthcare providers. This study utilizes data from the National Survey of Family Growth (2011-2019) on individuals aged 15-24, examining how self-identified sexual orientation relates to access to sexual health counseling and discussions with healthcare providers.
