- In the mid-nineteenth century, the literary, journalistic and pedagogical activities of Nísia Floresta Brasileira Augusta, the forerunner of the modern feminist movement in Brazil, stand out. The writer from Rio Grande do Norte publishes her ideas in Portuguese, French and Italian, being also responsible for spreading the liberal ideas of the English Mary Wollstonecraft in Brazil. The 'Opúsculo Humanitário' (Humanitarian Opuscule), a collection of 62 essays, deals with the educational restructuring of Brazilian women. The author penetrates the reality of the historical-social context through the feminine view, which confers specificity to her work. Nísia Floresta's feminism is characterized by the influence of Enlightenment, romantic, positivistic and utilitarian ideas. Despite their contrast, these four currents are somehow harmonized in the author's work.

- Em meados do século XIX, destacam-se as atividades literárias, jornalísticas e pedagógicas de Nísia Floresta Brasileira Augusta, precursora do moderno movimento feminista no Brasil. A rio-grandense-do-norte publica suas idéias em português, francês e italiano, e é também responsável pela divulgação das idéias liberais da inglesa Mary Wollstonecraft no Brasil. O ‘Opúsculo humanitário’, coleção de 62 ensaios, trata da reestruturação educacional da mulher brasileira. A autora penetra na realidade do contexto histórico-social através da ótica feminina, o que confere a especificidade de sua obra. O feminismo de Nísia Floresta caracteriza-se pela influência das idéias iluministas, românticas, positivistas e utilitaristas. Não obstante seus contrastes, essas quatro correntes se harmonizam na obra da autora.
