- This essay focuses on the 'Pedrinho' tale from Dalton Trevisan's first collection, "As Novelas Nada Exemplares" (The Not-at-all Exemplary Novellas, 1959), as an example of his narrative technique. First we locate the story in the collection thematically, since it deals with death, sex and disease in various contexts and combinations. 'Pedrinho' tells the story of a child who suffers a headache and dies quickly of meningitis. It contains nothing of the traditional "exemplar," despite the book's Cervantine title. Citing the critics Nelson H. Vieira, Malcolm Silverman, Northrop Frye and Robert Alter, we show how the minimal description, the understanding of time, the little and metaphorical dialogue, the creation by repetition, the narrative economy, and even certain actions and characters—both narrative and narration—are based on a biblical paradigm.

- Este ensaio enfoca o conto ‘Pedrinho’, da primeira coletânea de Dalton Trevisan, "As Novelas Nada Exemplares" (1959), como exemplo da sua técnica narrativa. Primeiro situamos o conto na coletânea tematicamente, já que esta trata da morte, do sexo e da doença em vários contextos e combinações. ‘Pedrinho’ conta a história de uma criança que sofre uma dor de cabeça e morre rapidamente de meningite. Não contém nada do “exemplar” tradicional, apesar do título cervantino do livro. Citando os críticos Nelson H. Vieira, Malcolm Silverman, Northrop Frye e Robert Alter, mostramos como a descrição mínima, a compreensão do tempo, o pouco e metafórico diálogo, a criação pela repetição, a economia narrativa, e até certas ações e personagens – ambas a narrativa e a narração – se baseiam num paradigma bíblico.
