<mods:abstract lang="eng">Through the story "Perdoando Deus" (Forgiving God) and the novel "A maçã no escuro" (The apple in the dark), I propose to address some fundamental themes for the understanding of the complex universe of the female character, within the work of fiction of Clarice Lispector. Tracing the search for the unnamed protagonist's knowledge in "Perdoando Deus," it is noted that during this process the character becomes aware of his social role and chooses to transgress it, insofar as it prevents its self-destruction as a feminine being. In a reverse way, Martim (one of the rare male protagonists in Lispector's work) seeks, in his social exodus, the reunion and apprehension of the values contained in patriarchal society, which determine a position of domination of man over woman. It is through the ideology created by the Christian-religious tradition, often parodying biblical passages, that the male protagonist encounters the "truth of men."</mods:abstract>
