- A place of passion and disenchantment, Brazil is the main subject of this interview with the Fluminense writer Antônio Callado, which took place on April 14, 1994, in his apartment in Leblon, Rio de Janeiro. Callado is the author of "Quarup," "Madona de cedro," "Reflexos del baile," "Bar Don Juan," among other titles. In 1994, he joined the Brazilian Academy of Letters, occupying chair number eight, left by Austregésilo de Athayde, whose patron is Claudio Manoel da Costa. As a journalist, Callado followed remarkable historical events. During World War II, he was on the BBC in London. In the 1960s, he participated in the journalistic coverage of the Vietnam War. Currently, he signs a weekly column in the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper. Despite the resistance to talk about his literary process, the author commented on his main works, the possibility of reconstruction of history through fiction, and how critical journalism was in his relationship with Brazil, which was the primary reason for his experience in literature.

- Espaço de paixão e de desencanto, o Brasil é o assunto principal desta entrevista com o escritor fluminense Antônio Callado, realizada no dia 14 de abril de 1994, no seu apartamento no Leblon carioca. Callado é autor de "Quarup", "Madona de cedro", "Reflexos do baile", "Bar Don Juan", entre outros títulos . Em 94, ingressou na Academia Brasileira de Letras, ocupando a cadeira número oito, deixada por Austregésilo de Athayde, cujo patrono é Cláudio Manoel da Costa. Como jornalista, Callado acompanhou fatos históricos marcantes. Durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial, estava na BBC de Londres. Nos anos 60, participou da cobertura jornalística da Guerra do Vietnã . Atualmente, assina uma coluna semanal no jornal Folha de S. Paulo. Apesar da resistência em falar sobre seu processo literário , o autor comentou suas principais obras, a possibilidade de reconstrução da história através da ficção e o quanto o jornalismo foi decisivo na sua relação com o Brasil, motivo primordial da sua experiência em literatura.
