<mods:abstract lang="eng">This article argues that Raduan Nassar, in the text ‘Um copo de cólera,’ mixes the vestiges of values previously reserved for Brazilian regional literature (land, family, man) with elements typically associated with contemporary urban fiction (uncertainty, angst, imbalance, etc.) to create a dense yet subtle work. The redefinition and the questioning of many of Brazilian society's patriarchal values and ideas, which were challenged by "modernization" during the military regime, are subversively expressed in the treatment of social relations, especially between men and women. ln the final analysis, that subversion is reflected in the inability to define the text within a specific literary genre.</mods:abstract>
