Adverse Childhood Experiences as a Predictor of Early Alcohol Use, Suicidal Ideation, Attempted Suicide, and Depression at a FQHC in Rhode Island

Description

Abstract:
Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) increase the incidence of health risk behavior and disease in adulthood. There is an established relationship between alcohol misuse and suicidal behavior in children and adults. Trauma informed care provides early intervention to children with high ACE scores to prevent the increased risk in alcohol use and suicide. To improve trauma informed care at Tri-County, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in RI, by adapting the original ACEs study to our patient population. This project examined ACEs as a predictor of alcohol use, suicide, and depression.
