- Questioning the idea of Origin in Brazilian literary history, this essay proposes a substitutive historiographical methodology, based on Nietzsche's and Foucault's, genealogy. The notion of absence of History in the country's past, usually replaced by mythographic narratives of Cartesian beginnings and endings, is the touchstone of this essay. The value of space as emptiness to be fulfilled by a geography of memory is explored in the works of Euclides da Cunha, Mario de Andrade and Pedro Nava. These are taken as examples in which meaning to our primordial man is provided by a geographer-chronist who gives him voice as a figure of discourse, without erasing time discontinuities, silences, omissions and the borderline experience of inhabiting a pile of mounting ruins that the Angel of History sees in his desperate flight forward in time. The thesis is that only a collector-historian like Benjamin would be able to gather extinct memories maintaining their chaotic percourse between desire and forgetfulness.

- Questionando a ideia da Origem na história literária brasileira, este ensaio propõe uma metodologia historiográfica substitutiva, baseada na genealogia de Nietzsche e Foucault. A noção de ausência da História no passado do país, geralmente substituída por narrativas mitográficas de inícios e fins cartesianos, é a pedra de toque deste ensaio. O valor do espaço como vazio a ser preenchido por uma geografia da memória é explorado nos trabalhos de Euclides da Cunha, Mário de Andrade e Pedro Nava. Estes são tomados como exemplos em que o significado para o nosso homem primordial é fornecido por um geógrafo-cronista que lhe dá voz como uma figura de discurso, sem apagar descontinuidades de tempo, silêncios, omissões e a experiência liminar de habitar uma pilha crescente de ruínas que o Anjo da História vê em seu desesperado vôo para a frente no tempo. A tese é que apenas um colecionador-historiador como Benjamin seria capaz de reunir memórias extintas mantendo o seu caótico percurso entre o desejo e o esquecimento.
