Abstract (lang="eng")
From the issue that students in a Literature Course at the University of São Paulo did not share the attitudes or concepts of reading of their scholarly professors, this paper analyses the classifications of Brazilian mass magazines in 1993 and 1997 and reaches at the conclusion that in the production instance they do not alter their concepts of readers and reading in essence although they seem to follow the public's changing needs. New kinds of magazines, including a case of a recent one addressed to those "who know how to read," show that even when intention is innovative, old and well established successful formulae are employed so far as readers and reading concepts are concerned.
