List of books in HPL's library

Description

Abstract:
Manuscript list of Lovecraft's books as found on his shelves, prepared by his downstairs neighbor Mary Spink soon after his death and later given to Dorothy C. Walter. Walter enlisted W. Paul Cook in an effort to prepare a printed version. Materials include Spink's penciled manuscript, consisting of loose pages and a bound notebook; a partial typescript; a typed copy of an excerpt of a letter from Walter to Cook dated 14 Jan 1945; Cook's handwritten draft of an introduction with an appended typed note by Walter; a letter on behalf of Spink to David Jonah dated 21 July 1958 regarding donating the materials to the John Hay Library; a photocopy of pp. 11-13 of Joshi, S.T. Lovecraft's Library, 2nd ed.; a Brown University Library bookplate "Gift of Mary Spink"; and a cardboard mailing envelope addressed to Walter. These materials were originally cataloged with call number PS3523, O82, Z495, mss, 1-Size.
