<mods:abstract type="general" displayLabel="Scope and Contents note">Standing to the right of a lectern, Frederick Douglass is depicted as in elder statesman, with a furrowed brow and deep lines marking his face. Captured mid-speech, Douglass raises his right hand above his head in a rhetorical gesture, while his left-hand rests atop the lectern. The life-sized bronze figure rests on a base of stone. The work is located in front of the Maryland Circuit Court Judge’s Office in Easton, Maryland. Just to the right and in the same plaza is a monument to Confederate soldiers.</mods:abstract>
