Drawing on ecocritically and theologically inflected close readings of several watery and airy incidents of poetic encounter, I argue that the liminal aspects of water, air, and mist/vapor are deployed by each of these poets to exemplify the aesthetic tensions between poetic form and formlessness and, in turn, to create the conditions for interrogating unresolved theological and metaphysical problems.</mods:abstract><mods:subject><mods:topic>Ecopoetics</mods:topic></mods:subject><mods:subject authority="fast" authorityURI="http://id.worldcat.org/fast" valueURI="http://id.worldcat.org/fast/01004373"><mods:topic>Lyric poetry</mods:topic></mods:subject><mods:subject authority="fast" authorityURI="http://id.worldcat.org/fast" valueURI="http://id.worldcat.org/fast/00051849"><mods:topic>Hopkins, Gerard Manley, 1844-1889</mods:topic></mods:subject><mods:subject authority="fast" authorityURI="http://id.worldcat.org/fast" valueURI="http://id.worldcat.org/fast/01067682"><mods:topic>Poetics</mods:topic></mods:subject><mods:subject authority="fast" authorityURI="http://id.worldcat.org/fast" valueURI="http://id.worldcat.org/fast/00032123"><mods:topic>Lowell, Robert, 1917-1977</mods:topic></mods:subject><mods:subject authority="fast" authorityURI="http://id.worldcat.org/fast" valueURI="http://id.worldcat.org/fast/01898190"><mods:topic>Heaney, Seamus, 1939-2013</mods:topic></mods:subject><mods:language><mods:languageTerm authority="iso639-2b">English</mods:languageTerm></mods:language><mods:recordInfo><mods:recordContentSource authority="marcorg">RPB</mods:recordContentSource><mods:recordCreationDate encoding="iso8601">20250707</mods:recordCreationDate></mods:recordInfo></mods:mods>
