Examining the Association Between Smoking E- Cigarettes During the Third Trimester of Pregnancy and Infant Low Birth Weight

Description

Abstract:
For my research, I used the Rhode Island Pregnancy Risk Monitoring System 2016-2019 (RI PRAMS) data set- which is a nationally representative sample of women 2-6 months postpartum who have delivered a live infant in Rhode Island to examine the association between smoking e-cigarettes during the last trimester of pregnancy and giving birth to a low birth weight infant. This issue is important because research studies have shown that smoking e-cigarettes while pregnant is associated with giving birth to an infant with a low birth weight. Giving birth to a low birth weight infant may cause negative long-term developmental health outcomes for the infant such as attention issues, cognitive developmental delays, or neuromotor functioning.
