- Abstract
(lang="eng")
- The magazine Athena, whose centenary of publication is celebrated in 2024, is generally remembered for the texts that Fernando Pessoa published in it, either as an author (in his own name or under his three major heteronyms) or as a translator. However, approximately half of the literary contributions featured in the periodical were made by other writers, most of whom remain in relative obscurity. Taking this into consideration, the present article focuses on just one of those contributors, the Sintra-born writer Francisco Costa (1900-1988), whose literary friendship with Pessoa is evidenced not only by the brief (yet significant) correspondence between them, but also by the dialogue their poems evoke in the pages of Athena. The differences and similarities between the poetic conceptions advocated by both authors will also be discussed.
