Abstract
Processed moderate resolution satellite imagery from the NASA Aqua and Terra satellites for spring and summer months between 2003-2020. Images were processed using the Matlab implementation of the Ice Floe Tracker algorithm. Truecolor and falsecolor images were sharpened, normalized, and then segmented to find potential ice floes. Ice floes were then compared pairwise to find matches in subsequent images, and the rotation and displacement of matched floes were recorded to form ice floe trajectories. An additional set of Python processing routines implements a logistic regression classifier to separate untracked sea ice floes from artifacts (e.g., clouds, landfast ice, and ice filaments) to enable study of the sea ice floe size distribution.
