<mods:mods xmlns:mods="http://www.loc.gov/mods/v3" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.loc.gov/mods/v3 http://www.loc.gov/standards/mods/v3/mods-3-7.xsd"><mods:titleInfo><mods:title>Antepartum Agentry Validation Study</mods:title></mods:titleInfo><mods:typeOfResource authority="primo">text_resources</mods:typeOfResource><mods:abstract>Background: Pregnancy-related hospitalizations can heighten stress, especially in the antepartum period, due to complications like preterm labor or preeclampsia. Existing screening tools may not fully capture the psychological impact of such hospitalizations. The Antepartum Agentry Scale is a newly developed tool designed to evaluate a patient's sense of control and empowerment during antepartum hospitalization.
Objective: This pilot study aims to validate the Antepartum Agentry Scale for its effectiveness in assessing emotional experiences during antepartum hospital stays and predicting postpartum mental health outcomes. We hypothesize that it will offer a more nuanced understanding of antepartum stress and serve as a predictor for postpartum mental health conditions.
Methods: Sixty pregnant patients admitted to the Antepartum Care Unit at Women & Infants Hospital between 22-36 weeks of gestation will be recruited. Participants will complete the Antepartum Agentry Scale, along with anxiety (GAD-7) and depression (PHQ-9) measures at admission, followed by a postpartum survey at 6 weeks. Antepartum agentry data will be analyzed and compared to other scales (e.g. GAD-7, PHQ-9, PSS) using receiver operating curves (ROCs) for prediction of clinically significant postpartum depressive symptoms (PHQ-9 >= 10). Optimal Antepartum Agentry Scale “threshold” for predicting PPD will then be identified.
Results: To date, 36 out of 60 patients have been recruited, 29 have delivered, and 14 follow-up surveys have been completed. We expect the Antepartum Agentry Scale to provide deeper insights into patients’ emotional experiences during hospitalization and to predict postpartum mental health more effectively than current tools.
Conclusion: The Antepartum Agentry Scale has the potential to enhance patient-centered care and mental health support during antepartum hospitalization.
