- Abstract
(lang="eng")
- This article aims at analyzing in what manner John Dos Passos portrayed migration in Brazil on the Move. Our text starts by showing the writer’s interest in Brazil’s development ever since the Portuguese settled the country. We then look closer at how Dos Passos reported on internal migrations that were being stimulated to settle Brazil’s interior during the late nineteen forties. The article also analyzes how the construction of Brasília is interrelated to the migration problem. Furthermore, Dos Passos wrote on the favelas (slums), suggesting that people had to move out of the big cities and get themselves some virgin land to work on. He believed that agriculture could free the Brazilian people from poverty.
