<mods:abstract lang="eng">The portuguese ancestry of Cecília Meireles, since the beginning of the development of her poetic activity, always represented reason for lyrical evocations. This aspect was incorporated into the artistic work of the author, through the account of ancestral memories, which populated her imagination since her earliest childhood, in trips made to the country of family origin and in the relations established with Portuguese writers and intellectuals. The city of Rio de Janeiro, birthplace of Cecília and where she spent most of her life, was the place where, through reminiscences of the Azorean immigrant family, there was a rescue of the traditions that marked the origin of her insertion in poetry and the expansion of her artistic self, which has always remained connected with her Portuguese ancestry. In this perspective, it is intended to examine, in the author’s poetry, aspects that refer to the representations of Portugal, manifested in their memorialistic and territorial displacements to the country that, in relation to Brazil, printed fundamental marks in the city of Rio de Janeiro and in the artistic creation of one of the greatest voices of contemporary lyricism.</mods:abstract>
