Abstract (lang="eng"): This research was driven by the observation of efforts, both public and private and intensified for almost two decades, to promote Brazilian literature internationally. The title advances the problem, unfortunately there are marked obstacles. Although without delving into the geopolitical aspects, I looked especially at the intricate and conflicting relationship between certain formative characteristics of Brazilian literature, the expectations of a well-founded foreign reader and the insularity of the Portuguese language. Knowing that a solution through a “cosmopolitan shift” in Brazilian literature is sometimes suggested, I also made some considerations in this regard.
Abstract (lang="por"): Esta pesquisa foi impulsionada pela observação dos esforços para a promoção da literatura brasileira internacionalmente, tanto de ordem pública como privada, intensificados há já quase duas décadas. O título adianta o problema, infelizmente há acentuados empecilhos. Embora sem me aprofundar nos aspectos geopolíticos, me debrucei especialmente sobre a relação intricada e conflitante entre certas características formativas da literatura brasileira, as expectativas de um leitor estrangeiro fundamentado e a insularidade da língua portuguesa. Sabendo que uma solução por via de uma “guinada cosmopolita” da literatura brasileira é por vezes aventada, teci também algumas considerações a este respeito.
