general
(displayLabel="Scope and Contents note")
- Monotropa uniflora is also known as ghost plant, ghost pipe, or Indian pipe. According to some Cherokee stories, the plant was so named after a group of chiefs quarreled while passing a pipe around. The Great Spirit turned the chiefs into the plant as retribution for smoking the sacred pipe before making peace with each other. The plant is said to grow wherever friends have quarreled.
