- The central proposal of this article is the observation of the reinterpretations of Machado de Assis' work present in contemporary narratives via memories (direct or indirect) of Machado's texts, focusing on the novel 'Machado,' by Silviano Santiago. Considering the importance of Machado to Brazilian literature all times, we find reminiscences of his narrative at different moments, whether in the novelesque structure consecrated by the author of 'Dom Casmurro,' or in stylistic characteristics that decisively marked the “Machado's style” of production and that became almost paradigmatic for the construction of narratives. Therefore, further to analyzing these aspects of recovery of Machado's narratives, we will examine the conceptual limits of memories, which demonstrate the evolutionary character about this term’s definition.

- A proposta central desse artigo se concentra na observação acerca das ressignificações da obra de Machado de Assis presentes nas narrativas contemporâneas por meio de memórias (diretas ou indiretas) de textos machadianos, com enfoque no romance 'Machado', de Silviano Santiago. Dada a importância de Machado para a literatura brasileira em todos os tempos, encontramos reminiscências da sua narrativa em diversos momentos, seja na estrutura romanesca consagrada pelo autor de 'Dom Casmurro', seja em características estilísticas que marcaram decisivamente o “jeito machadiano” de produção e que se tornaram quase paradigmáticos para a construção de narrativas. Para tanto, além de analisar esses aspectos de recuperação das narrativas machadianas, observaremos com cuidado os limites conceituais das memórias, que demonstram o caráter evolutivo acerca da definição desse termo.
