All About Me: Rewriting Subjectivity in the Poet's AutobiographyThis thesis looks at the autobiographical writing of two second-generation New York School poets, Alice Notley and Eileen Myles, arguing that they use this form to respond to late 20th century debates about the role of the subject in literature. It situates itself in the wake of Roland Barthes' essay "The Death of the Author" as well as during the proliferation of post-structuralist inspired Language poetry.
