Abstract: general (displayLabel="Scope and Contents note"): In this interview, Connie Filanie, a seasonal farmworker from Worcester, South Africa, reflects on intergenerational labor, family hardship, and economic survival. She describes starting work at Modderdrift farm in 2000, harvesting grapes for export under long hours and rigid production targets. Filanie highlights the impact on women balancing farm labor with family care, calls for reforms such as shorter workdays and land access, voices support for collective ownership, and expresses concern about gang violence while hoping for a more secure future for agricultural workers. Please be advised that this interview may contain stories of trauma, both personal and community-wide related to the legacies of racial slavery and colonialism.
