This request came after I participated in a six-part "literature and society" lecture series. The series of a different speaker each week over a period of six weeks, included lectures by the novelist and critic Alvaro Lins and the sociologist-historian Gilberto Freyre. On two of my three lecture tours, those taken in April-May 1970, I kept a journal. To be sure, nothing extraordinary happened to me on these short lecture tours, while I was there, certainly nothing that would make my notations of historical significance.
