Additive Manufacturing (AM) Infill Optimization
Abstract
Compression Research for Additive Manufacturing Performance (CRAMP) is an infill optimization system engineered for spaceflight additive manufacturing, featuring physics-based computational modeling and experimental validation of geometrically optimized lattice architectures that deliver 20% improved compressive strength over standard slicer infills while reducing material consumption. Designed to maximize strength-to-mass efficiency for in-space fabrication through MATLAB-based structural prediction and Instron mechanical testing, CRAMP qualifies additive manufactured components for lunar habitats, Mars transit vehicles, and autonomous on-surface fabrication systems. At the time of publication, CRAMP is supported by the NASA Rhode Island Space Grant (RISG), NASA Travel Grant, Polymaker (Industry Sponsor), and Elegoo (Industry Sponsor). CRAMP aligns with NASA 2024 Technology Roadmap Taxonomy identifiers TX12.4.1, TX12.4.4, TX12.4.6, TX12.4.7, and TX13.2.1.
