She was instrumental to the activity of the drum and dance ensemble, Delado from 1981 where she was a Dance Coordinator. Valerie’s trajectory led her into performance arts and activism whilst raising a family. As a Rastafarian her name is Sister Benji, and at funerals of those close to her - she takes on an important role in giving testimony to the life of the deceased. Additionally, Valerie is a respected cook, mainly catering Jamaican food for community and family celebrations, she even won Come Dine With Me in 2009.
