Abstract (lang="eng"): The aim of this article is to investigate how the characters of 'Time and the Wind' ('O Tempo e o Vento'), by Erico Verissimo, absorb time and space in the rooms of the Sobrado, especially during the first part of the trilogy, 'O Continente I.' It introduces an alternative model of the division of the study field of time and space, categories dealt with different perspectives and in concomitance: the wider the subject matter, the more concrete and outermost it will be. The more particular it is, the more abstract and inner it will be. The analysis of the text reveals that, concerning space, it is often presented by the narrator’steps and afterwards by the place of the characters, in situations that they frame the scenes in other spaces, linked to the time of existence and memory.
Abstract (lang="por"): Este ensaio objetiva investigar o modo que as personagens de 'O Tempo e o Vento', de Erico Verissimo, assimilam o tempo e o espaço nos cômodos do Sobrado, em especial na primeira parte da trilogia, 'O Continente I'. Propõe-se um modelo alternativo de divisão no campo de estudo da espacialidade e da temporalidade, categorias aqui tratadas em perspectivas e em concomitância: quanto mais amplas, mais concretas e exteriores, quanto mais particulares, mais abstratas e interiores. No exame do texto, observa-se que, concernente ao espaço, ele é por vezes apresentado pelos passos do narrador, depois pelos lugares das personagens, em situações em que estas constroem as cenas em outros espaços, vinculados ao tempo da existência e da memória.
