Kitāb al-Rūhiyāt = كتاب الروحيّات

This is a volume containing 19 Arabic works on magic, Islamic occultism, and esoteric sciences (numerology, astrology, letter magic, talismans, magic squares, etc.), all published or probably published in Egypt or more specifically Cairo in approximately the first decade of the 20th century, collected by and bound for Samuel M. Zwemer. The printed bookplate reads: "1887 1921. From the library of Samuel M. Zwemer, Cairo, Egypt". The significance of the dates is uncertain, but may represent a period of book collecting that began at the time of Zwemer's graduation from Hope College (1887) to the end of his missionary residence in Cairo (1921); see J.C. Wilson, Apostle to Islam (1952), page 92. Also with signature, above the bookplate, of Harold W. Glidden (Harold Walter Glidden, 30 September 1910-14 March 1990; retired 1970 as chief of the Near East Division of Research and Analysis at the U.S. Department of State). The volume is bound in quarter brown sheep skin and dark brown pebble-grained cloth; spine title in Arabic characters in gold, with "Zuymr" (Zwemer) at the foot of the spine. Each title has been individually cataloged with the exception of three works for which we only have the title for lack of sufficient information and/or cataloger knowledge.
