Julie Adams Strandberg began the Dance Program at Brown University in 1969 with a small group of enthusiastic students and a steadfast commitment to providing professional experiences in the liberal arts environment. This collection contains the programs and posters for the performances during the first 50 years of the Dance Program. Strandberg’s approach—producing unified concerts that include master choreographers, faculty, and novice student choreographers all on the same program—is uncommon in academic institutions and a hallmark of the Brown Dance Program. The artists represented in these concerts reflect Brown’s connection to the international dance community, and through this collection, the legacy of the artform can be holistically discerned.
