This is a collection of items comprising the Nuibari, a digital space created by Claire Inouye Rothstein '26 for individuals of Japanese ancestry to share stories centered on conversation, memory, and the many ways identity takes shape over time. These stories come together to move beyond any singular focus, expanding into the broader, ongoing realities of Japanese and Japanese American (JA) life across generations in the States. In its first iteration, Nuibari brought together a series of seven video interviews conducted with individuals reflecting on their family histories, personal experiences, and relationships to culture, place, and community. The conversations were presented alongside multimedia materials that participants have created or shared as meaningful to them, as well as selected works by other JA artists and storytellers. Together, these resources highlight how identity is not defined clearly, but something lived, questioned, and continuously redefined.
