- The article discusses determinants and trends in the use of the death penalty or capital punishment in various countries. Topics addressed include increasing international pressure for the abolition of the death penalty, the relation of death penalty usage to factors such as form of government, population size, and ethnic fragmentation, and Amnesty International's assignment of countries to death penalty usage categories such as abolitionist for all crimes and abolitionist for ordinary crimes.
