Adoo Quamina

Description

Abstract:
Hand-colored aquatint by J. Clark after Hutton; mounted figure in military costume with large plumed head-dress, carrying spear, riding towards left. From: Hutton, 'A Voyage To Africa: Including A Narrative Of An Embassy To One Of The Interior Kingdoms In The Year 1820... (London, 1821). Adoo Quamina was a captain and courtier to the Asante king. According to Hutton, he "made frequent visits, and we considered him much more as a spy of the [Asante] government, than a benevolent visitor'."
