Hollow Houses, Haunting Homes: Emptying Out the Houses of Daphne du Maurier, Shirley Jackson, and Mark Danielewski

Abstract:
An empty house is a haunting house. A haunting house is no “home, sweet home.” This thesis confronts the hostile voids at the core of three literary houses, absences which overwhelm and menace the human dwellers searching fruitlessly for their dream homes.
