- Com o manifesto de 1923, Sodoma Divinizada, Raul Leal não pretende apenas sair em defesa de António Botto, como oferecer uma alternativa doutrinária sua aos termos do paganismo estético a que recorre Fernando Pessoa com o mesmo propósito, de algum modo se medindo amigavelmente com o autor de “António Botto e o ideal estético em Portugal”. No manifesto desagua toda a teorização do Vertiginismo Transcendente empreendida por Raul Leal desde o texto fundacional de A Liberdade Transcendente, de 1913. No entanto, para além da presença de toda a arquitetura concetual, a própria sublimação da Luxúria e da perversão superior já nele se encontra e é coerente com várias outras obras ao longo de toda a vida de Raul Leal, tanto anteriores como posteriores ao episódio da “literatura de Sodoma”.
- Through his 1923 manifesto, Sodoma Divinizada, Raul Leal does not only purport to champion António Botto, but rather produces an authoritative alternative of his own to Fernando Pessoa’s aesthetic paganism line of argument for the same effect. In this, Leal is somehow attempting to amiably measure himself up as an equal with the author of “António Botto e o ideal estético em Portugal”. Into the manifesto flows the whole framework of the Transcendent Vertiginism defined by Leal in his 1913 foundational text A Liberdade Transcendente. However, beyond the presence of that entire framework, the sublimation of Lust and superior perversion can be found in it and it is consistent with several other works all along Raul Leal’s entire life, both precedent and subsequent to the episode of the “literature of Sodom”.
