[Act to prevent outrages against the Indians]

Caption title and first part of text reads: At the Gen[era]l Assembly held for the colony at Newport the 4th of May 1681. [damaged] Assembly taking in consideration the matter by & from presented by two assistants [missing] the towne councell of Providence concerning the late rash turbulent and violent [damaged] of Benjamin Hernden jun of S Providence towards an Indian man as he upon his [damaged] the 25th of Aprill did acknowlidge, that he being lately in the woods belonging to [missing] said towne and there seeing an Indian man, did shoot with his gunn at the said Indian [wi]th an intent to have killed him, and for noe other cause (as he himselfe confessed) but for that the said Indian would not obey his word, and stand at his comand, who indeed had noe authority nor just cause soe to comand; ..
Dated at signed at end: Ordered by this Assembly that a copy of this act be forthwith drawn by the gen[eral] recorder and the seale of the collony affixed and sent unto the towne of Providence and there to be published with all expedition. John Sanford recorder.
