- Abstract:
- The manifestation of depressive symptoms is a common reason for oral contraceptive discontinuation. Several studies have assessed the relationship between birth control use and depression, with inconsistent results. These studies compare current-user and non-user groups, but make no distinction between never-users or ex-users. This lack of distinction presents an issues because individuals who have never taken birth control are likely fundamentally different from those with a history of use. By placing all non-users in a single category, the \u201csurvivor effect\u201d becomes a potential issue in analyzing the relationship between oral contraceptives and depression
