- This paper examines the role of the New Christians within Portuguese mercantile organizations during the early modern period. It stems from the case of the General Brazil Company, because the foundation of this enterprise provides an example of how the 17th-century Portuguese authorities dealt with New Christian issues, allowing for a survey of Portuguese historiography on the subject.
- Este artigo examina o papel dos cristãos novos dentro de organizações mercantis portuguesas durante a idade moderna inicial. O ponto de partida é o caso da Companhia Geral do Brasil, porque a fundação deste empreendimento oferece um exemplo de como as autoridades portuguesas do século XVII lidaram com questões relacionadas aos cristãos novos, possibilitando uma inspeção da historiografia portuguesa sobre o assunto.
