- The outbreak of the First World War had a significant impact on the circulation of people, objects, and ideas. During the summer of 1914, Portuguese writers and painters, forced to leave Paris and return to their native land, brought with them first-hand experience of the avant-garde practices that had dominated the Parisian scene in the decade prior to the war. In the years that followed, many new, inventive, and exciting publications were launched, and Lisbon would host exhibits of painting, dance, and futurist-inspired events that shook the foundations of Portuguese literature and art.
- O início da Primeira Guerra Mundial teve um impacto significante na circulação de pessoas, objetos e ideias. Durante o verão de 1914, escritores e pintores portugueses, sendo forçados a saírem de Paris e voltarem à terra nativa, trouxeram consigo experiências de primeira mão sobre as práticas do avant-garde nas esferas parisienses da década anterior à guerra. Nos anos seguintes, muitas publicações novas, inovadoras e animadas lançaram-se, e Lisboa seria lugar de exibições de pintura, dança e eventos inspirados pelos futuristas, os quais sacudiriam os alicerces da literatura e da arte portuguesas.
