- Abstract:
- This project tells the story of five Indonesian economists who were instrumental in formulating and deploying state-wide development policy in Indonesia from 1966-69. These men, known as the "Berkeley Mafia", owing to their education at the University of California Berkeley, have been described as a proverbial trojan horse for American neoliberal economics by Western scholars in the 20th century. According to some in the academy, the Berkeley economists are the reason Indonesia transformed into a capitalist state post-1965.
