UNBOUND

Description

Abstract:
Unbound is a digital fiction made of text and images. The images are collages from classic superhero comics and photography. The story combines fiction and testimonial nonfiction, drawing on interviews with real people to build a superhero whose attributes represent the history and strengths of the subject of the interview. The reader is implicated as a fictional man whose obsession with superheroes led him to kidnap one in order to convince her to pass on her powers. The reader chooses which superhero is kidnapped and then explores their origin story and the story of their capture and eventual escape. The superheroes are based on interviews with four real people and the images that illustrate each are collaged from photographs and classic superhero comics. Each superhero the subject is collaged with represents a reflection of something they mentioned in the interview. At the conclusion of each storyline, the reader can read an edited transcript of the interview and commentary on the choices that were made to fictionalize the character.
