- Prior to medical school, any mentors I had were essentially handed to me. In college, I had specific professors who mentored me and in the working world, I had co-workers assigned to mentor me. So. when I started medical school and people started talking about “finding a mentor” for summer research, I thought to myself, but where exactly am I supposed to find this mentor?
