Individuals are largely unaware of the legal extent to which the TOS agreement permit internet companies to monetize their personal data profiles. This paper reveasl how the internet industry collects, processes and monetizes internet users’ personal information based on the legal cover provided by their TOS agreements. The goals of the paper are twofold: to inform internet users of the extent to which internet companies collect, analyze and monetize their personal information; and to promote the recommendations of the paper which emphasize the urgent need for legislative enactment of internet TOS restrictions.
