Defending a Desire-‐Centered Compatibilist Theory of Free Will

Description

Abstract:
This paper discusses the problems surrounding free will and argues that to act freely is to act in accordance with what one wishes to do given an understanding of one’s relevant desires, assuming one is capable of learning of the contents and strengths of one’s relevant desires. Additionally, because this theory of free will is compatible with determinism, this paper argues for compatibilism and against incompatibilism.
