- It is an honor to be included in today’s celebration of the life of George Monteiro. I didn’t know George when he was a member of the English Department, where I am now, but I got to know him later through activities of the Eugene O’Neill Society. George was an expert on playwright O’Neill and other American modernists of the early 20th century, 100 years ago, and shared his deep knowledge widely.
